We fell in love with Jades’s bags and purses that she made for Poundshop 2, and since then she has always been one of our favorites. Jade Folawiyo graduated from BA Product Design, Central Saint Martins in 2010. Living and growing up in London her family originates from Nigeria and her work brings together her experience of two different cultures. She is inspired by the way in which different cultures share ideas and practices, and often looks at mixing traditional and contemporary infuences in an attempt to revive and develop new techniques. She worked in Italy from 2008-2009 as a Product Designer for Fabrica’s Design department. She has since been selected to be a Designer in Residence with the Design Museum, producing this collection of copper Lampshades. Her Lampshades were included in the collection of pieces selected to be presented to The Queen’s at Her Diamond Jubilee celebrations at Valentine House. Jade has always been inspired by African fabrics and used them as a basis for the patterns created on her copper lampshades. Uno Lampshades will be exhibited at Masterpiece in Chelsea from the 27th June – 4th July.
