Let us introduce you to Parasite Ceramics and their world of site specific projects
Tell us about you and what you do?
Parasite Ceramics is a small create practise with experience in the fields of ceramics, graphics, product design, and community engagement. They create site-specific ceramic artworks, produce unique limited edition tableware as well as run community workshops and events. Run by two ceramicists and a 3D designer Parasite Ceramics seek to tell stories in new and imaginative ways, capturing the history and value of communities. The main objective of this studio is to offer ceramics in a unique and tangible way that draws people in to connect once more with their surroundings. The outcome results in various site-specific expressions ranging from graphic and product design to collaborative pieces, installations, and exhibitions, while their client list includes The British Museum, Arts Council and many others.
Tell us about Euro Buttons?
We feel that Euro buttons is a very current piece – with the European Financial crisis booming and “Age of Austerity” being on everyone’s lips. The buttons are made from the original European coins from Germany, Netherlands and Ireland and have a slight feeling of nostalgia about them. We also feel like the subtlety of the design makes it into truly great fashion accessory.
What inspired you to make Euro Buttons?
Our work is always inspired by a specific place and this one is no exception. London is definitely our main inspiration for this project.
What are you working on at the moment?
We are currently working on couple of things including an outdoor workshop that will run in October as well as a new range of tableware, inspired by the British country side, we are hoping to get it produce on time for this Christmas.

Last but not least, what are your thoughts on affordable design?
Making the design affordable is definitely the new design challenge, especially when you make limited edition or hand made work like us – working in the industry, where the production methods haven’t change not just for decades but centuries.
